Trail from Garkalne to Kalngale
Kalngale

The trail from Garkalne to Kalngale runs through pine forests and natural areas, parts of which are also located within Ādaži Municipality. The route starts at Garkalne railway station and is approximately 20 km long. It is suitable for hiking, with a moderate to challenging difficulty level.

Along the way, hikers can enjoy diverse forest landscapes and rich biodiversity. Sections of the trail pass through protected nature areas, including the Piejūra Nature Park and the Garkalne Forest Nature Reserve, where several rare bird species can be observed.

Within Ādaži Municipality, the route passes through the village of Alderu, where it is possible to take a short break at Alderu Beach on Lake Mazais Baltezers, as well as explore the story of Alderi Park and its historic plantings. Continuing towards Kalngale, visitors can also stop at the Baltezers Tree Nursery, known for its wide variety of plants and peaceful garden atmosphere. Near Kalngale, the Bird Park recreation area offers a firepit and resting facilities. In the Kalngale beach area, it is also possible to follow the Rose Dune Trail, which leads all the way to the sea.

The most convenient way to reach the starting point at Garkalne railway station is by train, using routes Riga–Sigulda, Riga–Valmiera, or Riga–Valga.

This trail is ideal for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts who wish to explore the forests and coastal landscapes of the Ādaži region.
