Ādaži, Audio guide, Walking Tour

A journey through the pages of Ādaži Municipality’s history in an audio guide format!

The town of Ādaži, as we know it today, began to take shape in the 1960s around the present-day Līgo Square. At that time, it was primarily known as a collective farm (“kolkhoz”), which existed for 41 years and significantly influenced the lives of many Latvians. The collective farm system, where participation was mandatory, eliminated private ownership and left deep marks on society despite Soviet propaganda.

During this walk, you will discover how Ādaži developed during the Soviet era, when the collective farm and later the “Ādaži” agro-firm shaped local production through fur farming, bread baking, and horticulture, while also constructing important public buildings.

The collective farm was designed as a model enterprise, often used to impress foreign visitors while concealing the realities of everyday life behind the “Iron Curtain.”
